Maggie and Josh | Engagement Session | Duke Gardens in Durham NC

I’m so lucky to be meeting a vast majority of my brides and grooms through friends, past clients, and family! It’s wonderful to know you’re more than just a stranger in these people’s lives and that you hold a connection of one kind or another. I know Maggie through my sister’s friend Hannah. So, we’re not exactly best friends and that’s how we came to meet. Ironically, and I normally don’t love doing this, but the first time the three of us met was at Duke Gardens for their Engagement Session! But, I have to tell you, it was just great. I love Duke Gardens, partly because it’s close to home and is just lovely, but also because of the wide variety of environments provided in the garden’s themselves. And, this is why so many other people love Duke Gardens! Which, can make an engagement session tricky sometimes.

BUT- we lucked out. It was raining most of the weekend and morning… and somehow… the Fates smiled on me and my already many rained out sessions this season and said “Kate, I’m going to let you have a session today.”

It was wonderful. I love photographing in the rain or right after it completes raining because the greenery is lush, and it forces the colors to just POP out at you in the images. Rainy or cloudy weather is also great because it allows for light diffusion- meaning, less shine and shadows on faces. AKA, happiness all around.

So, back to Maggie and Josh. In short, I love these two and am super duper excited to be photographing their wedding in LESS THAN 100 days at the Crystal Coast Country Club. I feel like the two of them are just such a perfect match and are so happy, it can’t be anything but a wonderful affair. And, I love beach weddings :)

Kelly + Darrell | Engaged | Downtown Cary Engagement Session

Kelly and Darrell are people I love to call clients, and would love to call dear friends. Every time I see them, we inevitably spend some time catching up on each others lives and how we’re doing. And it’s because of this that I’m so excited to be photographing their wedding, and to have the extra time this season by taking on fewer clients, to dedicate that time to these two.

For their engagement session, we decided that downtown Cary would provide some neat backdrops, while being close to home for them. We started at the Cary Arts center, which was actually the high school one of their mother’s attended as a girl. Imagine the history there! Then we continued walking to the older downtown portion of Cary, where we wrapped up the session. There was a tiny bit of a windchill when we took these photos, but these two were great about gritting their teeth through it so we could capture some really fun, real, honest images of them together.

Charlie and Katie | Downtown Raleigh Clarion Hotel Wedding

Charlie and Katie are here in North Carolina while Charlie completes his degree in Agriculture Sciences. They’re away from family, and friends, and decided to hold their wonderful wedding for their loved ones… I guess you would call it a destination wedding over Thanksgiving weekend! I loved the idea they had, where family and friends spent the holiday with Charlie and Katie, and then celebrated their wedding the follow weekend.

Laura and Adam | Chapel Hill Wedding

Laura and Adam were married on what had to be the coldest, but most gorgeous in terms of light and family joy day in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The two of them were just so happy and bubbly the entire day, just happy to be done with the planning and finally married. We did some family and wedding portraits on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill, and then walked to Top of the Hill on Franklin Street, where they were married in an intimate ceremony in the Great Room.

Katherine and Jared | Anderson Point Park | Raleigh NC

I met Katherine and Jared at the April 2011 Southern Bridal Show and Expo, and excitedly booked, and photographed their engagement session, also at Anderson Point Park. Well, they were married on October 22nd, and it blew my mind the amount of detail, care, and thought they put into the planning on their wedding. I honestly believe their wedding reflected their personalities perfectly. Without saying more, I will leave you with this quote from their program:

Lori and Mike : Durant Park, Raleigh Engagement Session

Lori and Mike will be getting married at the Campbell Lodge in Durant Nature Park next October- and if the weather is anything like we saw this November for their engagement session at the park, it’s going to be spectacular. Lori and Mike are such a calm, cool, friendly and down to earth couple, it was just so fun and enjoyable to take a walk with them for the engagement session. Treco and Brannon: Roxboro Wedding

When I first met Treco, I always say this, the thing that caught me most was her eyes. She has the most amazingly bright green/blue (depending how you look at them!) eyes. I think I gushed about her eyes actually in my engagement session blog post a ways back…

Nevertheless, I was really looking forward to their family and close friends oriented wedding in Roxboro at the Homestead Steak House. I simply love the chemistry, honesty, and happiness Treco and Brannon had before their wedding. They were calm, but oh so happy, which is the best kind of feeling to photograph. Some couples are anxious… and some are calm. Both are beautiful, and it’s always interesting to me to see what type of emotions I’ll see before the wedding.

Kind Words for Kate Peters Photography

This past season has been a whirl wind for me. As my first season in North Carolina, 2011 has been my most successful year as a photographer. I’ve grown technically, learned more than I ever thought I would, expanded my product lines, and received the kindest, nicest, warmest feedback from my wonderful couples. I have 2 weddings left this season, and I must admit, I’m a little sad that my next wedding will be in April. That’s a huge lull for me, but nothing compared to the November to May freeze out in Minnesota.

So, to pass the time and to remind me, and future clients why I do this exactly… I created a testimonial page! Please feel free to check it out, I’ll be adding to it over the coming weeks with all of the kind words I’ve received in the past couple of months. Amanda and Travis : Raleigh Farmers Market and Arboretum Engagement

Amanda and Travis will be getting married in 2012, and I’m so excited to be taking this journey with them as they begin to plan their wedding and start their lives together. It’s always so amazing photographing a couple fresh, before the wedding, because I get to know a little bit more about them, and what is important to them. We finally had the trifecta of perfect light, perfect weather, and perfect timing for our engagement session, and to be honest, I’m so GLAD it happened when it did. We were originally planned for a super rainy cold weekend, and after 2 reschedules, decided to wait another month… and man. The light, everything was perfect for this session.
